Scooter safety is very important, especially with toddlers scooters since you’re basically putting your little one on wheels and sending them off on their merry way down the driveway.
First off, for all kids regardless of age, a scooter helmet is an absolute must. No excuses, no quick scoot without the helmet on, they climb on the scooter, they wear a helmet. If they refuse to wear it, take away the scooter. Seriously, you will end up very sorry if you let your child ride a scooter without a helmet.
Next, the knee and elbow pads are also strongly recommended for any kids under the age of six riding a scooter and for any kid that is attempting to do any scooter tricks or jumps or ramps. Much like with helmets, it only takes one fall to end up in the emergency room.
Of course, it’s harder in the summer time, but bundling up your littlest ones can certainly help in the event of a fall or spill.
There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of scooter safety gear specifically designed for scootering. Of course, there are tons of bicycle helmets on the market that are perfect as well as roller blade and roller skate knee and elbow pads that will do the trick.
Remember, safety first!
